Permission secured for extensions and garden buildings at a historic house set on the Menai Straits and in AONB

We were retained to assist on this project by the scheme Architect after initial discussions. The proposal involved a modern single storey extension to the side of the property, along with repurposing and alerting a garden ‘bothy’ to provide an outbuilding with leisure facilities. Alongside this the house was to be extensively renovated and modernised after a period of vacancy.

The site had a number of challenges including its setting in an elevated position above the Menai Straits and in the AONB, the ecology value of the site and its grounds (with a bat population of rare bats), and planning controls on alterations to dwellings. Working together with the architects (Walkerbushe), Landscape Architects (Landstudio) Ecologist (Enfys Ecology), and Drainage Engineers (Cube Consulting Engineers) we made a strong case for a high quality scheme and showed that it complied with all policy requirements and objectives.

The proposal was approved by Isle of Anglesey Council this week, and our client can now move on with their project and bring a beautiful house in a stunning setting back into use.
